There could just be a great news for the nursing shortages in the United State as the JCH was awarded a one million dollar grant to develop a nursing programme for veterans. With other initiatives to be included in the nursing programme as a way to attract more veterans into the programme, it may be as well noticed that the sources and ways of combating nursing shortages are being identified and already exploited.
Jefferson College of Health Sciences announced Tuesday that it was awarded a $1 million grant to develop a nursing degree program tailored for veterans. The three-year grant comes from the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality and Retention Program, run by the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Health Professions, which prepares veterans as they transition from the military into the practice of civilian nursing. Jefferson College developed a veteran’s bachelor of science in nursing program that modifies existing nursing curricula to address veterans’ unique need.
According to the news release,
the program will build upon other initiatives to support veterans as
they return to college to prepare for health careers. Jefferson College
already has a prior learning assessment program that allows veterans to
earn college credit based on specific experience gained while in the
military.
