Tobacco Smoking by Health Care Practitioners

The fight against tobacco smoking in the society is getting more intense day after day, knowing fully well the risk associated with smoking, Nurses Round looks into the effect Health care Professionals smoking tobacco have on the fight against tobacco smoking.
Nurses and other Health care professionals leads the way on the fight against tobacco smoking, in recent years bans has been placed on some tobacco smoking behaviours such as open environment smoking ban in some parts of the world.
However, the tobacco producing industries have increased the rate of the product advert in so many forms using televisions, radios, programmes and even running promotions!

The fact that the health care professionals are aware of the damages done to human body organs still have not influence a total abstinence from smoking by the various cadres and genders in health care practice.

There may as well be no evidenced based research pointing out what influence health care professionals public smoking will have on other masses who do not have insight into the effect on the body but we believe that the fight against tobacco may be more affection if the health care practitioners lead the way.

In Africa, some of the well known and or successful health practitioners (physicians, nurses, etc) do smoke in the midst of friends. One wonders what education or counseling they will offer a patient with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD) and other lung diseases who developed these illnesses as a result of smoking habits which is the leading case of these disease.

Smoking by the health practitioner  may be attached to the nature of the job, as many have pointed out, though we believe our readers will be very helpful in analyzing and finding out major researches why the supposed leaders of the battle against tobacco smoking do actually participate in the smoking exercise
