Circle of Health International (COHI) is an Austin-based international humanitarian aid organization providing quality maternal, reproductive, and newborn health care in crisis settings. COHI has provided care for over 3 million women and children, trained over 7000 health care professionals in topics related to emergency care, and delivered over $500,000 worth of supplies to our community based partners in 17 countries, including the US.
COHI is launching its In Her Shoes Campaign on September 15th, which focuses on maternal malnutrition and its devastating impact on maternal and newborn health. COHI aims to bring awareness to this issue with its challenge to supporters to adopt the diet of a woman living in a developing country for three days.
“By emulating these women, whom we have helped during 18 different emergency responses, it brings the issue of malnutrition and hunger closer to home. We witness the intersection of malnutrition and poor maternal health, and specifically how it negatively affects newborn health over time,” says Sera Bonds, COHI’s Founder and CEO. “If we can break the cycle of malnutrition, we’re one huge step closer to globally improving women’s health.”
In addition to the challenge, COHI encourages supporters to create their own crowdfunding campaigns and raise donations. The raised funds from this campaign will go toward COHI’s current programs in Nepal, the Philippines, Haiti and Nicaragua.
In Her Shoes will run for 60 days, allowing for plenty of opportunity for those inspired and motivated to accept the challenge. The campaign will culminate with an event in New York City, hosted by Julianne Moore and Jemima Kirke, and will highlight the personal stories of the women COHI has assisted throughout its 11 years of work.
