Urgent Need for nurses and midwives in Liberia

MCAI UK is working towards identifying senior nurses or midwives who might be willing to work with them in Liberia, training nurses and midwives there in the hospital care of newborn infants.

Following onto the training of senior midwives in advanced obstetrics including abdominal surgery such as Caesarean section, we have now begun a programme to train senior nurses/midwives in basic neonatal hospital care.

Because of the lack of doctors in Liberia (the lowest proportion to the population in the world) (see attached information) we cannot engage doctors from Liberia to train the nurses in neonatal care as there are only 1-2 trained Liberian paediatricians in the country and they are too busy already.

Attached is a request for international experts in neonatal care to help with this project along with the curriculum and we would be very grateful if you could consider circulating this to nurses trained in neonatal care who might be willing to work with us in Liberia.
