Every profession has its guiding tools for the professional members with the ethics as the shepherd to guide and ensure fairness and a level playing ground in the profession.
Hence Nurses Round looks into the professional influence to the personality adaption in the Nursing practice. Coming into nursing for some persons may be a stroll to the stream whereas for others with personality difficulties may be a hard labour.
In recent years we have seen many of the nursing associations develop guidelines, principles and ethics with the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Ethical codes superseding all. However, all of these tends to point towards same direction as they all seek one objective “To ensure good nursing practice” in summary.
These codes can be deduced to be a way to keep every nurse focused to his/her duty and ensure appropriate conduct irrespective of the person’s natural personality trait.
Nursing as a society of care givers is made up different calibers of individuals clothed with different colours of apparels to deliver professional services to client and or patient and hence the influence of personality must always be observed. personality which can be seen in nursing are not different to the sanguine, the phlegmatic and the choleric. Personality of individual nurses can never be the same and hence the difference in perception of individual patients to nurses as well as nurses to patients yet the standard of practice in majority of cases are not affected or may be minimal affected.
The difference forces towards maintaining these standards of practice are the professional influence nursing profession has on the personality of nurses. Professionalism takes care of lateness, malpractices, battery and the temperaments, hence finding the balance between the profession and the individual personalities. Professional influences have major stake in the way a nurse behaves/conducts in his/her work environment and as well the entire society, as the nurse tends to promote the value of nursing at all time. Though in adverse personality sometimes, the nurse may still go out of the line but in few cases i.e. “a nurse avoiding a procedure on a patient because the patient is not compliant or a nurse having personal dislike for a patient and hence trying to get a revenge” therefore the professional influence to a nurse personality goes long way towards ensuring a safe nursing practice. Hence nursing organizations and society should endeavor to always direct nurses toward the importance of professionalism through acquired from schools during educational sessions and mastered with experiences, there is still need to appreciate the role of professional roles in the nursing personalities
